Job description

Job Title: Store Manager – Retail, Tabletop Games & Taproom

Location: Books & Brews

Job Type: Full-Time (Approx. 40 hours/week)

Pay: $21.00 – $24.00/hour starting base (Depending on experience) + Monthly Retail Performance Bonuses

Estimated Annual Earnings: $46,000 – $52,000 / year (Base + Bonus)

About Books & Brews

At Books & Brews, we bring people together over local craft beer, comfort food, secondhand books, tabletop board games, and Trading Card Games (TCG). We are equal parts neighborhood hobby & game shop, indie bookstore, and casual community taproom.

We’re looking for an organized, hands-on, community-minded Store Manager to lead daily retail operations, support our shift staff, keep inventory sharp, and maintain a vibrant, clean space for gamers and guests alike.

What You’ll Do

As Store Manager, your primary focus will be on our retail floor, TCG/board game inventory, and team accountability, with basic oversight of our food and beverage service.

Retail & Inventory Management (60% of focus): Oversee receiving, pricing, stocking, and merchandising for TCGs, board games, books, and merch. Keep inventory counts accurate on our POS to minimize shrinkage.

Team Leadership & Accountability: Build monthly staff schedules, train team members, and ensure opening/closing checklists, cleaning protocols, and floor organization are completed to standard.

Community & Events: Oversee in-store gaming nights (TCG tournaments, board game meetups, trivia) and help run engaging local events that keep our player base thriving.

Taproom Oversight (Light F&B): Ensure smooth food/beer service, track draft and kitchen supply levels, and ensure staff follow food safety and alcohol compliance rules.

Customer Experience: Keep the store organized, welcoming, and high-energy so casual visitors and die-hard gamers both feel right at home.

Who You Are

Retail or Hobby Leadership Experience: 2+ years in a retail supervisor, assistant manager, or manager role (experience in game stores, comic shops, bookstores, or specialty cafes is a major plus!).

Gaming & Pop Culture Savvy: Familiarity with board games, TCGs (e.g., Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Lorcana), or general tabletop gaming culture is strongly preferred.

Organized & Systems-Driven: You appreciate neat shelves, structured checklists, accurate inventory, and clear communication.

People Leader: You set clear expectations gently but firmly, keeping staff accountable without micromanaging.

Compliance Minded: Must be 21+ and eligible to obtain a local server/pourer permit for craft beer service.

Perks & Compensation

 Competitive Compensation: $21.00–$24.00/hr base pay.

Monthly Sales Bonus: Monthly performance incentives tied directly to retail and store sales growth.

Paid Time Off (PTO): Accrued vacation and personal time off.

Store Perks: Employee discounts on games, books, merch, food, and craft beer!

Consistent Work Schedule: A predictable, reliable schedule tailored around store needs.
