Summaryย 

Combination Building Inspector, under the general supervision of the Chief Building Official,ย ensuresย code and zoning compliance through inspections of commercial and residential construction.ย Responsibilities include plan review, documentation, code guidance, complaint investigation, notice issuance, agency collaboration, code improvement suggestions, emergency support, and teamwork.ย 

Hourly Wage is Dependent on Certifications and related years of Experience.ย 

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

  • Conducts inspections of commercial and residential construction projects (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, building, and related) to ensure code and some zoning/development standard compliance
  • Reviews commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with relevant codes and regulationsย 
  • Maintains detailed documentation of inspections, violations, actions, plan reviews, and compliance for legal purposesย 
  • Consults with and advises stakeholders (homeowners, builders, design professionals) on plans, code compliance, interpretations, and related procedures
  • Investigates construction-related complaints, issues violation notices (Stop Work Orders, Dangerous Building notices), and reports unsafe conditionsย 
  • Collaborates with other city agencies on design, licensing, and code requirementsย 
  • Fosters positive working relationships with various stakeholdersย 
  • Recommends improvements to existing codes, regulations, policies, and proceduresย 
  • Assistsย in the investigation of fires, explosions, or hazardous conditions and orders evacuations when necessaryย 
  • Actively participates in team functions, meetings, and activities to support team goals
  • Follows City financial policies, procedures, and safety guidelinesย 
  • Performs other duties as assigned ย 

Minimum Qualificationsย 

  • Highย schoolย diploma or equivalentย 

Combination Building Inspector Iย orย IIย 

  • Two (2)ย years of experience in building inspections, code enforcement, or construction tradeย 

Combination Building Inspector IIIย or IVย 

  • Three (3)ย years ofย relevant experienceย 

Preferred Qualificationsย 

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in construction science, industrial technology, architecture, engineering, or related fieldย 
  • Previousย construction inspection experienceย
