Job description

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Qualification by the Navy as a Naval Science Instructor
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a diverse population
    • Possess integrity and high standards of ethics
    • Possess a Bachelor's degree and be eligible for a Georgia Teaching certificate

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Teachers plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Additionally, the NSI will be responsible for the coordination and execution of numerous Navy JROTC functions including drill, orienteering, academic and rifle meets; community service, ceremonies and physical fitness activities.
REPORTS TO: Senior Naval Science Instructor
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction including the Classroom Performance System (CPS).
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Oversee the procurement, tailoring, issue, return, survey and/or reissue of cadet uniforms.
  • Accompany unit cadets as coach and chaperon on all competitions, field trips and community service events.
  • Act as lead instructor/coach for all drill teams and color guard, scheduling and holding practices as required to build competitive teams and work closely with the SNSI to schedule and prepare for all competitions.
  • Other appropriate responsibilities assigned by the principal and the senior naval science instructor.
