Legal Nurse Consultant- Remote
Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, currently has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Legal Nurse Consultant who will support our Chicago office. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.
Position Summary:
Our Health Care group is seeking a Legal Nurse Consultant who will utilize their training, education and nursing experience to provide critical analysis and render informed opinions to assist attorneys with the evaluation of case facts and medical records.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify, request via authorization and/or subpoena, review and analyze all pertinent medical records, radiology studies and billing statements necessary for complete case review;
  • Review, summarize and analyze medical records and other pertinent health care and legal documents and compare/correlate them to allegations;
  • Conduct medical research regarding case subject areas, including but not limited to medical condition(s) at issue in case, the standard of care applicable to treatment, professional guidelines and practice regulations to prepare pertinent summary of how same relates to case allegations;
  • Confirm that records are complete or identify missing records and develop additional documents to request;
  • Organize, index and manage electronic database of medical records;
  • Identify, locate, evaluate and confer with appropriate experts in case subject areas;
  • Perform background searches of opposing testifying experts;
  • Prepare attorneys for depositions and/or trials and advise attorneys of appropriate strategies with medical witnesses; and
  • Capture and record billable time in compliance with firm policies and client guidelines.

Qualifications and Prior Experience:
  • BSN or RN degree with at least five years of medical/surgical nursing experience.
  • A minimum of three years of LNC or RN paralegal experience.
  • Experience charting clinical nursing care in electronic medical record systems such as Epic, Meditech, Cerner, Allscripts, etc.
  • Computer Skills: Must have working knowledge of internet and proficiency with: Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro, LexisNexis, Pacer, and iManage.
  • Written Communication: Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs; able to read and interpret written information.
  • Oral Communication: Listens and obtains clarification when necessary; responds well to questions.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems sin a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Quality: Demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
