What are Colonial Claims adjusters?

Colonial Claims adjusters are professionals who work for Colonial Claims, a company specializing in property and catastrophe insurance claim adjusting. They are responsible for assessing damages, investigating insurance claims, and helping policyholders navigate the claims process after events like storms, hurricanes, or other disasters. Colonial Claims adjusters often travel to affected areas, evaluate property damage, and work directly with insurance companies and clients to ensure claims are processed efficiently and fairly. Their work is crucial in helping people recover from unexpected losses.

Is being a claim adjuster worth it?

Claim adjusters evaluate insurance claims, often requiring strong communication, attention to detail, and knowledge of insurance policies. The role offers steady employment, with opportunities for advancement and certification, but can involve stressful situations and irregular hours depending on claim volume and severity.

Is colonial life a remote job?

Colonial Claims is typically an in-office role that involves handling claims and customer interactions, though some positions may offer remote work options depending on the company's policies. It often requires communication skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with claim processing tools. Remote availability varies by employer and specific job responsibilities.

What is the difference between Colonial Claims vs Claims Adjuster?

Work EnvironmentOffice and field work, insurance companies, claims sitesOffice-based, insurance companies, claims sites
Industry UsageInsurance claims processing, customer serviceEvaluating insurance claims, settlement negotiations

Both Colonial Claims and Claims Adjusters require similar credentials and work in insurance environments. Colonial Claims often refers to roles within specific insurance companies or agencies, focusing on claims processing and customer service. Claims Adjusters evaluate claims, determine coverage, and negotiate settlements. While their duties overlap, Colonial Claims may emphasize claims handling within a particular organization, whereas Claims Adjusters have a broader industry role.

Which claim adjusters make the most money?

In the field of claims adjusting, specialized roles such as senior or independent claims adjusters tend to earn higher salaries due to their experience and expertise. Adjusters handling complex or high-value claims, such as property or casualty claims, typically make more than those managing routine claims. Certifications like the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) can also contribute to higher earnings.

What are some common challenges faced by claims adjusters at Colonial Claims and how can they be managed?

Claims adjusters at Colonial Claims often encounter challenges such as handling high case volumes after natural disasters, adapting to evolving insurance regulations, and managing emotionally charged interactions with policyholders. To address these, strong organizational skills, ongoing professional development, and effective communication are essential. Team collaboration and support from experienced colleagues and supervisors also play a key role in navigating complex claims and maintaining high service standards.

Is claim adjusting a dying field?

Claim adjusting remains a stable profession within the insurance industry, with ongoing demand for professionals who evaluate and settle claims. While technology such as claims management software and automation tools are increasingly used, the need for human judgment and expertise keeps claim adjusting relevant and necessary.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Claims Adjuster at Colonial Claims, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Claims Adjuster at Colonial Claims, you need a solid understanding of insurance policies, claims processes, and investigative techniques, often supported by relevant work experience or a degree in insurance, business, or a related field. Familiarity with claims management systems, estimating software such as Xactimate, and industry certifications like AIC (Associate in Claims) are typically required. Strong attention to detail, negotiation skills, and excellent customer service distinguish top performers in this role. These abilities are crucial for accurately evaluating claims, ensuring fair settlements, and maintaining customer trust in a high-stakes environment.

Job description

About Colonial Construction

Colonial Construction is a premier full-service contractor serving the northern Delaware region, known for delivering exceptional craftsmanship on high-end residential projects. From luxury renovations and custom builds to complex insurance restoration work, our reputation is built on quality, accountability, and professionalism. We are growing and looking for a seasoned leader to join our team.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experiencedย Superintendentย with a dual skill set: the finesse to manage high-end construction projects to the highest standards, and the technical knowledge to navigate the insurance restoration process from claim to close. This is a field leadership role โ€” you will be the face of Colonial Construction on every job site, managing crews, subcontractors, timelines, and client relationships from start to finish.

If you're a hands-on leader who takes pride in your work, can communicate confidently with insurance adjusters and high-net-worth clients alike, and knows how to drive a project to completion without cutting corners โ€” we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day field operations across multiple active projects simultaneously
  • Manage subcontractors and crews, holding all parties to Colonial Construction's quality and safety standards
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, scopes of work, and specifications
  • Conduct site walks, inspections, and punch list reviews

Insurance Restoration

  • Work directly with insurance adjusters and homeowners through the claims and restoration process
  • Review and supplement insurance scopes
  • Coordinate timelines with adjusters, public adjusters, and property owners
  • Document job progress thoroughly with photos and written reports to support claims

High-End Construction

  • Manage luxury residential renovations and new construction projects
  • Maintain tight quality control on finishes, materials, and workmanship
  • Communicate professionally and proactively with discerning clients
  • Identify and solve field problems before they become delays or cost overruns

Operations & Communication

  • Maintain accurate daily logs, scheduling, and material tracking
  • Coordinate deliveries, inspections, and permit requirements
  • Report project status directly to ownership and project management
  • Uphold a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times

Qualifications

  • 5+ yearsย of superintendent or site management experience in residential/commercial construction
  • Willingness to work within the insurance restoration framework
  • Track record managingย high-end renovation or custom constructionย projects
  • Strong understanding of all trades: framing, roofing, drywall, flooring, painting, mechanical, electrical, plumbing
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction documents
  • Excellent communication skills โ€” comfortable interfacing with adjusters, clients, architects, and crews
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation:ย Commensurate with experience โ€” we pay competitively for the right candidate
  • Company vehicleย provided
  • Health insuranceย (medical, dental, vision)
  • Performance bonusesย tied to project outcomes
  • Profit sharing plan
  • Opportunity for long-term growth within an expanding company

Why Colonial Construction?

We don't just build structures โ€” we build trust. Our team is small enough that every person matters and large enough that you'll always have interesting, challenging work in front of you. You'll have the autonomy to run your jobs and the support of ownership that is hands-on, experienced, and invested in your success.

This is not a corporate job. It's a chance to do meaningful work, be recognized for it, and grow with a company that's earning its reputation project by project.

How to Apply

Submit your resume and a brief description of your experience. References from past projects are a plus.
