Colombia Engineer information

What does a Colombia engineer do?

A Colombia Engineer typically refers to an engineer who works in Colombia or is of Colombian origin, specializing in fields such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering. Their responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing technical solutions to meet the needs of local industries, infrastructure, and communities. They must also ensure projects comply with Colombian regulations and standards while considering the unique environmental and economic challenges of the region. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and continuous professional development are also important aspects of the role.

What are some common challenges faced by engineers working on projects in Colombia and how can they be addressed?

Engineers working in Colombia often encounter challenges such as navigating complex regulatory frameworks, adapting to varying infrastructure standards, and collaborating across diverse teams. Effective communication in both Spanish and English is essential, as many projects involve international stakeholders. Additionally, understanding local environmental and cultural considerations can help engineers design solutions that are both practical and sustainable. Building strong relationships with local authorities and staying up-to-date on industry regulations can greatly enhance project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Colombia engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an engineer in Colombia, a solid background in engineering principles, a relevant bachelor’s degree, and professional registration (such as with the Colombian Professional Council of Engineering) are typically required. Familiarity with technical tools like AutoCAD, project management software, and local engineering standards is essential. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help engineers excel in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments. These competencies ensure engineers can deliver effective, compliant, and innovative solutions to meet Colombia’s infrastructure and industry needs.

What is the difference between Colombia Engineer vs Civil Engineer?

AspectColombia EngineerCivil Engineer
CredentialsEngineering degree, possibly specialized in Colombia-specific projectsEngineering degree, often with specialization in construction or infrastructure
Work EnvironmentConstruction sites, engineering firms, government agencies in ColombiaConstruction sites, consulting firms, government departments worldwide, especially in infrastructure
Industry UsageDesign, planning, and supervision of engineering projects within ColombiaDesign, planning, and supervision of infrastructure projects globally, including Colombia

Colombia Engineers focus on projects within Colombia, often requiring knowledge of local regulations and standards. Civil Engineers have a broader scope, working on infrastructure projects worldwide. Both roles require engineering degrees, but Colombia Engineers may have additional familiarity with local codes and practices.

How much do Colombia engineers make?

Colombia engineers typically earn between $8,000 and $20,000 USD annually, depending on experience, specialization, and location within the country. Salaries for civil, electrical, and software engineers vary based on industry demand and certifications, with higher pay generally associated with advanced skills and project management roles.

Sentradel

San Francisco, CA • On-site

$110K - $170K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 4 days ago

Job description

About Sentradel
Over 90 percent of combat deaths in Ukraine are caused by small drones. In Colombia, over 100 military and police officers have been killed by cartel operated drones. Shahed drones hit civilian and military targets across the Middle East uncontested. Unjammable fiber optic and AI controlled drones are making the threat cheaper, faster, and harder to stop. This problem will only get worse.
Sentradel is a defense startup in San Francisco building autonomous, low cost kinetic turret systems designed to defeat Group 1 (small FPV drones) and low flying Group 2 drone threats. We have shot down dozens of drones in live fire testing, have active Department of War agreements, commercial partnerships, and sales.
How we work
Full time, in person at our San Francisco office. We also travel and test frequently at our Nevada range, and across the US at demos with partners and customers.
Job Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to own the turret's electronics: motor drives, power distribution, and harnessing. The turret requires a stable power source, and the electronics must be hardened, easy to use, and easy to repair in the field.
Responsibilities
• Design motor drive, power distribution, and motion control electronics
• Design PCBs and route wiring and harnesses across the turret
• Own the control bus, sensor integration, and refinement of the sensor stack
• Make units networkable with low latency control
Qualifications
• You have designed, tested, and brought up your own boards
• Experience with motor control or high current power systems
• PCB design experience
• Strong attention to detail
US Person Requirement
Sentradel is a US defense contractor and this role involves access to export-controlled technical data. Applicants must be a US Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR 120.62): a US citizen, US lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or a protected individual such as a refugee or asylee.
