Job description

We are looking for an experienced SSD Triage Engineer / NVMe Test Engineer to join the NVMe functional test team within an enterprise product division.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience testing NVMe SSDs and strong knowledge of storage protocols, test scripting, and failure analysis. This role will focus heavily on planning, executing, debugging, and triaging functional test failures for enterprise SSD products.

The candidate will work closely with test development, test execution, and SSD firmware engineering teams to identify the root cause of failures and determine whether issues are related to SSD device firmware, test scripts, test environments, or test setup.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute functional tests for enterprise NVMe SSD products.
  • Perform hands-on testing and validation of SSD functionality and performance.
  • Debug and triage test failures across hardware, firmware, test scripts, and test environments.
  • Analyze test execution history and logs to identify failure patterns and potential root causes.
  • Determine whether failures are caused by:
  • SSD device firmware
  • NVMe/PCIe protocol behavior
  • Test scripts
  • Test infrastructure
  • Test setup or configuration
  • Hardware/environmental issues
  • Develop, modify, and execute test scripts to reproduce and isolate failures.
  • Use Python or other scripting languages to automate and support SSD testing.
  • Collaborate with SSD firmware engineers to investigate device-level failures.
  • Work with test development and test execution teams to resolve test-related issues.
  • Document failure analysis, debug findings, root cause, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Track and communicate test status, failures, and triage results to cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Support continuous improvement of functional test coverage and test methodologies.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience in SSD/HDD testing, validation, qualification, or system testing.
  • Strong experience with at least one storage/front-end protocol:
  • NVMe – preferred
  • PCIe
  • SAS
  • USB
  • Demonstrated experience with failure triage and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience analyzing test failures and determining whether issues are related to firmware, scripts, hardware, or test setup.
  • Experience with test scripting or automation.
  • Strong Python scripting skills are highly preferred.
  • Experience working with SSD or HDD test environments.
  • Ability to analyze logs, test results, and execution history.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with firmware, test development, and test execution teams.
  • Must be willing to work onsite in San Jose, CA, Monday through Friday.
