VACANCY NOTICE: Bus Driver- Various Route
Location: Transportation Department
 



EFFECTIVE:  2026-2027 School Year
POSTING DATE:  May 21, 2026
APPLICATION DEADLINE:  May 25 at 11:59 p.m. or until filled
POSITION:  4.50 Hours Per Day (Monday Friday, AM and PM)   
                     Nine (9) Month Position
                     Salary Range: $24.99 to $30.73 Per Hour  







 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Operates buses to transport students; performs routine vehicle safety and maintenance checks; prepares and maintains related records and reports; represents Wooster City School District in a favorable public image at all times.

LIMITATIONS: Employees holding this position are not eligible for weeknight field trips. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Commercial driver's license Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
  • Completion of bus driver training provided and approved by the Ohio Department of Transportation; must meet legal requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates bus in accordance with State law, regulations of the State and Local Board of Education, and regulations established by the Superintendent.
  • Maintains qualifications of a bus driver, (e.g., obtaining training, Commercial Driver's License, School Bus Endorsement), abstract, annual physical examination, attends local/county bus drivers' safety meetings and attends inservice meetings.
  • Cares for and  maintains  safety of the bus pursuant to directives of the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Conducts Pre trip inspection before starting daily bus run.
  • Follows routes, makes established stops while operating the bus.
  • Maintains discipline and reports flagrant violations, drivers may not exclude students from the bus, but shall follow the Board of Education procedures for discipline.
  • Keeps the inside of the bus clean, and front and rear windows clear.
  • Reports any needed bus repair as required using the appropriate form.
  • Verifies time schedule, route directions, passenger list and prepares seating chart for all assigned runs with a copy of the transportation supervisor and a copy to remain in the bus.
  • Driver may sign up for field trips or athletic trips as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Maintains physical capability to appropriately lift and manage all pupils if necessary.
  • Copes with stressful situations related to handicapped pupils.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. 


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist co-workers as required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS AND PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasional operation of a bus under inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Occasional interaction among unruly children.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: (* indicates developed after employment)

KNOWLEDGE OF: Ohio Bus Operation Rules and Regulations. 
ABILITY TO:  Operate a school bus following all applicable rules and regulations, lift and position handicapped students as required. 
SKILLS IN:  Defensive driving, driving in inclement weather, relating to students and parents.


LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates (unless current employees) must pass a criminal background investigation prior to employment.
