Role Summary

  • We are seeking an experienced Alation Platform Engineer with a strong engineering and data governance mindset to support the consolidation of multiple Alation environments into a unified enterprise platform.
  • The ideal candidate will have expertise in metadata management, data cataloging, enterprise data governance, and platform engineering. This role will be responsible for designing scalable metadata solutions, enabling the Enterprise Data Marketplace, and driving enterprise-wide adoption of a unified metadata strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical assessment and consolidation of multiple Alation instances into a unified enterprise platform.
  • Design and execute migration strategies for Data Catalogs, Business Glossaries, metadata, lineage, and stewardship models while ensuring minimal disruption.
  • Define and implement metadata reconciliation and conflict resolution strategies for duplicate catalog objects, business terms, stewardship assignments, and taxonomy alignment.
  • Design and enhance Enterprise Data Marketplace capabilities to enable trusted, governed, and discoverable data products across the organization.
  • Develop automation solutions using Alation REST APIs, Python, and SQL for metadata migration, synchronization, validation, and platform administration.
  • Configure and validate metadata ingestion, lineage, and governance integrations with enterprise data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, and Azure.
  • Collaborate with Data Governance, Data Engineering, and Business teams to establish enterprise metadata standards, governance processes, and stewardship models.
  • Drive platform optimization, user adoption, and onboarding of new business domains into the unified Alation platform.
  • Produce governance documentation, migration plans, and audit artifacts to support enterprise compliance and operational excellence.

Required Skills

  • 6–7 years of experience in Data Engineering, Metadata Management, or Data Governance.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience implementing and customizing the Alation Data Intelligence Platform.
  • Proven experience delivering Alation migration or multi-instance consolidation projects in enterprise environments.
  • Strong expertise in Data Catalog, Metadata Management, Data Lineage, Business Glossary, Stewardship, and Enterprise Data Marketplace.
  • Hands-on experience with Alation REST APIs, Python, SQL, and scripting for metadata automation and platform integration.
  • Experience integrating Alation with enterprise data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, or similar cloud ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of metadata governance, taxonomy design, metadata quality, and lineage management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple business functions and governance teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience consolidating multiple Alation environments into a single enterprise platform.
  • Experience defining enterprise metadata standards, governance operating models, and stewardship frameworks.
  • Familiarity with data governance and data quality platforms such as Ataccama, Collibra, or Microsoft Purview.
  • Experience supporting enterprise cloud data modernization initiatives.
  • Alation certification is preferred.
