Position Summary

Salem College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the USA South Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Assistant Track & Field Coach. The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Track & Field Coach in all aspects of the women's track & field program, including recruiting, athlete development, practice planning, meet preparation, and program operations.

The successful candidate will be passionate about coaching, mentoring student-athletes, and contributing to a culture of academic achievement, personal growth, and competitive excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with planning and conducting practices, workouts, and training sessions.

Provide technical instruction and skill development in assigned event areas.

Assist with meet preparation, competition strategy, and athlete performance evaluation.

Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes who align with Salem College's academic and athletic mission.

Support the academic success, personal development, and well-being of student-athletes.

Foster a positive team culture focused on accountability, leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Assist with travel planning, meet logistics, and team operations.

Support fundraising efforts, community engagement activities, camps, and clinics.

Assist with equipment management and facility preparation.

Maintain compliance with NCAA Division III, USA South Conference, and Salem College policies and regulations.

Assist with social media content, recruiting communications, and program promotion.

Drive a college-owned 15-passenger van to transport student-athletes to practices, competitions, recruiting activities, and other team-related events as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Track & Field Coach and Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications

HS Diploma required (bachelor's degree Preferred)

Previous playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred

Strong knowledge of fundamentals, strategies, and player development

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of the Assistant Women's Track & Field Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
