The University of Guelph is seeking an experienced and collaborative finance professional to join the College of Computing, Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CCMPS) and the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics as Manager, Finance. This unique shared-services role provides strategic financial leadership and support across two dynamic academic colleges, with responsibility for operating, research, trust, and endowment funds.
Reporting jointly to the Directors, Business Operations in both Colleges, the Manager, Finance is responsible for financial planning, reporting, forecasting, compliance, and financial process improvement. The role partners closely with academic and administrative leaders to support informed decision-making and effective stewardship of College resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the development and consolidation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and multi-year financial plans.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify risks, and provide recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Prepare and oversee regular and ad hoc financial reporting for College leadership.
- Establish and maintain effective financial controls and ensure compliance with University policies, sponsor requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Provide oversight and guidance related to research, trust, and externally funded activities.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and financial stewardship across both Colleges.
- Provide functional leadership, guidance, and support to colleagues involved in financial administration and reporting.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and interpreting financial reports for senior decision-makers.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with financial systems, Excel, and reporting tools.
- Experience working in a complex organization with multiple stakeholders; experience in higher education or the broader public sector is considered an asset.
