Job description

Duties Description The Collections Management Intern is responsible for assisting in the Collections Management Unit for New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's Bureau of Historic Sites and Parks Services in the overall management, record keeping, and handling of collections objects. The candidate will work alongside both conservation and curatorial staff as appropriate. Under primary direction of the Museum Registrar, and supporting Collections Management Unit staff, work duties can include but are not limited to: Assist with inventory and storage maintenance, housing and rehousing collections objects Assist with database entry (TMS Collections) and clean up Creation, filing and renaming of digital assets Assistance with cataloguing recent acquisitions Assistance with loan file management and digital archiving Object photography and digital file management Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

Additional Comments PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with museum collections management, registration, and/or collections museum management software is preferred. OPERATIONAL NEEDS: Must have clear communication skills, follow provided standards and guidance, under prescribed timelines Experience with MS Suite (Word, Access, Excel) Ability to reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 20lbs Basic understanding of best practices for digital data management ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: This position is from September 2026 through December 2026. While work assignments will be focused primarily at Peebles Island State Park, particular projects could include limited travel to state historic sites and park facilities.
