Job description

MISTRAS Group is seeking a qualified NDT UT II Shear Wave Technician, full-time, in Atlanta, GA. The ideal candidate will perform advanced non-destructive examinations using ultrasonic shear wave techniques to detect, evaluate, and document discontinuities in welds, base materials, and structural components. This position requires a strong understanding of ultrasonic inspection principles, applicable industry codes, and the ability to interpret inspection results while ensuring compliance with customer specifications and quality standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform Ultrasonic Testing (UT) inspections utilizing shear wave techniques on welds, plate, pipe, pressure vessels, and structural components.
  • Interpret and evaluate inspection results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Set up, calibrate, standardize, and operate ultrasonic testing equipment after and during inspections.
  • Identify, size, characterize, and document discontinuities using appropriate shear wave methods.
  • Complete accurate inspection reports, data sheets, and quality documentation.
  • Verify equipment calibration and maintain calibration records.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure inspections are performed in accordance with ASME, AWS, API, ASTM, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with company Quality Management System (QMS), safety policies, and industry regulations.
  • Coordinate with customers, supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel regarding inspection findings.
  • Assist with developing inspection techniques and improving inspection processes.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Level I technicians as needed.
  • Maintain certification records and participate in continuing education and annual proficiency requirements.
  • Travel to customer facilities and job sites as required.

Requirements:

  • Current Level II Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certification in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or CP-189.
  • Demonstrated experience performing manual shear wave ultrasonic inspections.
  • Thorough understanding of ultrasonic wave propagation, angle beam inspection techniques, DAC, AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria, and flaw characterization.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld procedures, and inspection requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and electronic reporting systems.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Graduated from a Non-Destructive Testing School
  • Additional NDT certifications (PT, VT, PAUT, RT) are a plus
  • Experience in refinery, manufacturing, fabrication, aerospace, or industrial environments preferred
