POSITION SUMMARY

The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery is currently seeking applicants to fill full-time Coke Terminal Operator positions at our Carson, CA location.

To ensure safe operations, new hires must successfully complete training and participate in continuous random drug and alcohol screenings. Successful candidates will have a solid understanding of physical science, chemistry, and mathematics, including algebra, and must achieve a passing score on pre-employment testing, including mechanical aptitude, reading, and mathematics assessments.

Coke Terminal Operators are expected to remain in the role for a minimum of five years before transfers will be allowed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform moderate skill level work using simple hand tools to keep areas clean of coke.
  • Drive a skip loader, water truck, and street sweeper.
  • Clean up coke spillage in the conveyor belt system, the screen house, the tunnel (belt 4), and surrounding areas.
  • Work in small and confined spaces as required.
  • Work at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces.
  • Climb, lift up to 50 pounds, carry 10-20 pounds, and push/pull up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance.
  • Work safely in adverse conditions while wearing various forms of PPE, including fresh air masks.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A Valid Driver License is required.
  • Experience working at LAR, including as a high school intern, is preferred.
  • Military experience is preferred.
SCHEDULE

Coke Terminal Operators work 12-hour rotating shift schedules (day and night) and must be available for overtime and often work holidays.

PAY AND BENEFITS

Starting Coke Terminal Operator rate is $32.24 per hour, with the ability to earn $46.00 per hour in four years.
