What is a coke?

Coke workers, also known as coke oven operators, are responsible for overseeing the production of coke, a fuel derived from coal, which is essential in the steel-making process. Their duties include operating and maintaining coke ovens, monitoring temperatures and chemical reactions, and ensuring safety standards are met. They also handle the loading and unloading of coal and coke, troubleshoot equipment issues, and keep detailed records of production. This job requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and often involves working in high-temperature environments.

Effective communication and attention to detail are essential, as small issues can impact the entire line. Teamwork is highly valued, and employees regularly participate in shift meetings to discuss goals, address challenges, and streamline operations.
