About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Java Developer with 6-10 years of experience in Java and Spring Boot to design, develop, and support enterprise-scale applications within the Cards & Payments domain. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building secure, scalable, and high-performing payment solutions while collaborating with business and technology teams to deliver innovative financial services applications.
In this role you will:
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture.
  • Build and support secure RESTful APIs for payment processing and card management platforms.
  • Develop and enhance solutions supporting authorization, clearing, settlement, and chargeback processes.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and transaction processing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, and cross-functional teams to deliver business requirements.
  • Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Create and execute unit, integration, and regression testing strategies.
  • Support application deployments and work closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams.
  • Maintain technical documentation, system architecture, and integration artifacts.
  • Ensure compliance with security, risk, and regulatory requirements within financial services.
  • Mentor junior developers and actively participate in Agile ceremonies.

Work Model: Hybrid - from the United States
What you need to have to be considered:
  • 6-10 years of hands-on experience in Core Java development.
  • Strong expertise in Spring Boot and Microservices architecture.
  • Experience developing REST APIs and enterprise-grade applications.
  • Hands-on experience within the Cards & Payments domain.
  • Knowledge of payment processing workflows including authorization, clearing, settlement, and chargebacks.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, and query optimization.
  • Understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging frameworks.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices, encryption, authentication, and access controls.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

These will help you stand out:
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and container technologies.
  • Experience working within Banking, Financial Services, or Payments organizations.
  • Prior experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring development teams.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $64,734 - $90,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
