About the Role
As a Senior Java Backend Developer, you will make an impact by designing and developing secure, scalable, and high-performing backend applications that support critical business operations. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with product managers, architects, DevOps engineers, database administrators, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver reliable data-driven solutions.

In This Role, You Will:
  • Design and develop robust backend services using Java and relational database technologies to support scalable enterprise applications.
  • Build and optimize data access layers, SQL queries, and database structures to ensure high application performance and reliability.
  • Develop secure APIs and integrations that enable seamless communication between distributed systems and data platforms.
  • Collaborate with product, architecture, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into maintainable technical solutions.

What You Need to Have to Be Considered
  • 7-10 years of experience designing and developing enterprise applications using Java and relational database technologies.
  • Strong expertise with PostgreSQL, PL/SQL, MySQL, SQL optimization, data modeling, and performance tuning.
  • Experience developing secure RESTful APIs and backend services in distributed application environments.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot production issues, analyze database performance, and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience with software testing practices, including unit testing, integration testing, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $68,000 - $112,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
