Job description

The Last Mile is where Amazon's global fulfillment network meets the customer's doorstep. As part of this mission-critical team, you will help redefine the speed and precision of our delivery operations, building the technologies that move millions of packages daily. We are looking for creative software engineers who thrive on complex, high-stakes challenges and are ready to innovate within our Last Mile Technology (LMT) and Station Tech organizations.
In this role, you won't just write code; you will be the architect of solutions that empower our "on-ground rockstars"-the associates, managers, and drivers who navigate the final stretch of the delivery journey. Your work will scale across Amazon Logistics (AMZL) and Global Specialty Fulfillment (GSF), focusing on reducing cognitive load and eliminating decision points through automation. By building tools that prioritize high-impact tasks and correct operational defects in real-time, you ensure we consistently meet our customer SLAs despite the growing complexity of our network.
As a successful candidate, you will own the entire software development lifecycle-from design and documentation to deployment and operations. You will have the autonomy to build optimized systems that drive site throughput and operational quality on a global scale. If you are a self-driven engineer who relishes the challenge of operating mission-critical systems in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, come join us. It is still Day 1 in Last Mile, and we are ready to work hard, have fun, and make history.
Key job responsibilities
As a key member of our engineering team, you will be a driving force behind our product strategy, defining features that directly empower our frontline "rockstars" and simplify complex global operations. You will refine system architectures and spearhead engineering best practices, building the reliable, high-performance distributed systems necessary to sort millions of packages with precision across our growing logistics network.
Beyond technical execution, you will set the "Day 1" foundation for the next generation of Last Mile technology. We are looking for a customer-centric engineer who pairs deep Computer Science fundamentals with a "hustle" mentality to bridge the gap between business needs and mission-critical code. Your goal is to build software that is both technically elite and operationally flawless-ensuring we eliminate human error and consistently deliver on our customer promises at a global scale.
A day in the life
Every year, we set ambitious automation goals, translated into quarterly plans and executed through methodical sprints.
We start each day with a standup to track progress, remove blockers, and coordinate as a team. The rest of the day is reserved for deep work: dedicated time for design, documentation, and development. While you own your projects end-to-end, you'll regularly engage in design and code reviews to sharpen our collective output.
Every 4-5 weeks, you will lead the on-call rotation to support production systems. Depending on the project stage, you may also conduct onsite testing at our Last Mile Stations, ensuring our customers are fully equipped to operate and maintain the solutions we engineer.
About the team
The Under-The-Roof Automation team within Last Mile envisions to create a fast delivery station processes that support faster delivery methods. In a world where anyone can deliver packages for Amazon and delivery points can be in a variety of areas, technology that is utilized needs to be tightly-embedded into the working environment and processes. This yields a scenario in which it is invisible, intuitive to interact with, and ensures processes are as fail-proof as possible. The team continuously innovates for our customers and invests in furthering our architectural foundation to enable business growth, and strategic business initiatives for the next-generation "Last Mile" hubs WW. We have embarked on a journey to develop our next generation automation solutions for all Last Mile solutions globally and are looking for rockstars to help us through the same journey.
