Job description

Inpatient coding experience required. Specifically in Inpatient Rehab Coding. 

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Coding Quality Review Lead may assist with pulling random and focus review samples, reviewing medical records, monitoring, compiling and reporting out review results. The team lead may assist with providing auditor specific education and global coding education based on review findings and trends. The lead may be asked to perform coding quality reviews up to 50% of the time.

What you will do in this role:

  • Assists the Coding Quality Review Manager with pulling extracts and populating the various tools to create the random, focus, Business, and AdHoc review chart selections for the HSCs and CCRM on a monthly basis
  • Assists the Coding Quality Review Manager with monitoring overall review completion to established daily, weekly and monthly goals, identifying barriers and implementing appropriate resolutions.
  • Assists the Coding Quality Review team in using coding quality review tools to enter the coding review results
  • Assists the Coding Quality Review Manager with analyzing the coding quality review data, identifying and presenting HSC, CCRM, auditor and/or code/DRG error trends
  • Assists the Coding Quality Review Manager with developing and presenting education to the CQR team based on quality review outcomes
  • Assists in planning and budgeting of the Coding Quality Review team
  • Performs coding quality reviews
  • Maintains or exceeds 95% quality and productivity standards
  • Identify trends and make recommendation for education to help the CQR team maintain and exceed 95% accuracy rate
  • Reports to the Coding Managers periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs
  • Meets all educational requirements as stated in current Company policy
  • Reviews all official data quality standards, coding guidelines, Company policies and procedures, and clinical/medical resources to assure coding knowledge and skills remain current
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”
  • Assists in generating reports as needed by Coding Quality Management
  • Serves as a liaison between HSC and CCRM managers and Coding Quality Management
  • Oversight of Coding Quality Reviews to ensure deadlines are met and integrity of data entry is maintained
  • Maintains annual workplan update process
  • Maintains CQR recruitment reporting
  • Maintains knowledge of tools and resources, and associated workflows to include Computer Assisted Coding (CAC), Electronic Health Records (EHR's), and data capture systems.
  • Assists in the development, Maintenance, and Distribution of Operational and Outcome Reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Generating reports as needed by Coding Quality Management
  • Oversee Coding Quality reviews from review scope definition, account selection, data loading, reviews, appeals and final outcomes reporting
  • Reconciling CQR & HSC/CCRM appeal responses Prepares meeting minutes
  • Ensures coverage for essential tasks between normal working hours

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in HIM/HIT required
  • 2-years of equivalent HIM/HIT work experience may substitute degree requirement
  • Management/Supervisory experience in healthcare related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years acute care inpatient/outpatient coding experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years coding auditing/monitoring experience required
  • RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS required
