Coding Train information

What is Coding Train?

Coding Train is an educational platform and YouTube channel created by Daniel Shiffman that focuses on teaching programming concepts, primarily using JavaScript and the p5.js library. The channel features tutorials, creative coding challenges, and live streams that make learning to code accessible and fun for people of all skill levels. Coding Train is especially known for its engaging teaching style and emphasis on visual and interactive projects, helping learners understand complex topics through hands-on examples.

What collaborative opportunities are typically available for educators working with the Coding Train community?

Educators involved with The Coding Train community often collaborate on developing educational content, organizing live coding sessions, and participating in open-source projects. Team members regularly engage with fellow educators, contributors, and learners through online forums, video workshops, and community challenges. This collaborative environment fosters the sharing of creative coding ideas, feedback on projects, and joint problem-solving, making it a supportive space for professional growth and network building.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a coding trainer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Coding Trainer, you need strong programming expertise, instructional skills, and experience with relevant coding languages, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with educational platforms, code editors, and certifications such as CompTIA CTT+ or relevant language-specific credentials is typically valuable. Excellent communication, patience, and the ability to motivate and engage learners are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills ensure effective knowledge transfer, learner engagement, and successful skill development for students.

What is the difference between Coding Train vs Coding Instructor?

AspectCoding TrainCoding Instructor
CredentialsTypically self-taught or coding bootcamp graduatesOften requires teaching certifications or computer science background
Work EnvironmentOnline platforms, coding tutorials, workshopsEducational institutions, coding bootcamps, online courses
Industry UsageContent creation, online education, community engagementFormal teaching, curriculum development, student assessment

The Coding Train primarily focuses on creating coding tutorials and engaging with online communities, often without formal teaching credentials. In contrast, a Coding Instructor typically works within educational institutions or structured programs, requiring teaching certifications or relevant degrees. Both roles involve teaching coding skills but differ in credentials, work environment, and industry application.

How to train to become a coding train?

To train as a coding train, focus on developing strong programming skills in languages like JavaScript or Python, and gain experience with coding platforms, tutorials, and projects. Building a portfolio of coding exercises and understanding core concepts such as algorithms and data structures are essential for success in this role.

Job description

Role Title: Computational Biology & Cheminformatics Expert

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging Computational Biology & Cheminformatics Experts to contribute their expertise to a customerโ€™s computational drug discovery project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required โ€” your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

  1. Analyze and interpret small-molecule and drug discovery datasets using advanced computational biology, bioinformatics, and cheminformatics methods.
  2. Curate, annotate, and validate chemical and biological datasets (e.g., ChEMBL, PubChem, DrugBank) to support AI-driven discovery platforms.
  3. Evaluate compound-target interactions, ADMET properties, and lead optimization strategies by integrating chemical, biological, and clinical data sources.
  4. Provide expert insights on structure-activity and structure-property relationships (SAR/SPR), medicinal chemistry approaches, and experimental design considerations.
  5. Build and implement code-based benchmark tasks (e.g., terminal/CLI-based environments) that reflect realistic computational drug discovery scenarios.
  6. Develop reproducible environments (e.g., using Docker) and automated testing pipelines to ensure task correctness and solvability.
  7. Assess and review AI-generated outputs for scientific rigor, accuracy, and practical relevance, delivering detailed written feedback and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Advanced expertise in Computational Biology, Cheminformatics, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related fields; advanced degree (PhD, MSc, PharmD) highly valued but not strictly required.
  2. Strong coding proficiency in Python (beyond analysis scripts), with hands-on experience building tools, pipelines, or testable code; familiarity with Git, GitHub, and Docker.
  3. Extensive experience with cheminformatics toolkits and platforms such as RDKit, KNIME, Schrรถdinger, OpenEye, or MOE.
  4. Proven track record in small-molecule drug discovery, SAR/QSAR evaluation, ADMET prediction, or virtual screening workflows.
  5. Comfort working with public chemical and bioactivity databases and integrating diverse datasets for scientific analysis.
  6. Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex chemical and biological concepts in written feedback and reports.
  7. Experience participating in multidisciplinary and/or remote projects; familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools is a plus.
