In collaboration with SLUHN clinical unit leadership plans, implements, and evaluates clinical instruction. Supports an academic and non-academic milieu conducive to effective student learning and personal development. SCOPE OF NURSING SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates a positive milieu in the clinical environment that fosters student learning and development.
  • Evaluates student learning outcomes on the unit of clinical instruction.
  • Evaluates student clinical performance in accordance with established standards defined by the course faculty, the school, and SLUHN.
  • Established positive faculty, student, and staff relationships with effective communications in formal and informal contacts.
  • Utilizes current clinical nursing research applicable to area of teaching.
  • Serves as professional role model for students and staff.
  • Implements a philosophy, conceptual framework, and content/process instructional plan to insure integrity of the program curriculum.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the SLUHN as well as the proper release of information.
  • Complies with SLUHN policies of environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrates/models the SLUHN Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
  • Complies with SLUHN policies regarding attendance, parking, and dress code.
  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.

SCOPE OF NURSING SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR PHYSICAL AND SENSORY SCENARIOS:

As a nursing school instructor, you will be working closely with and under the supervision of our nurses and thus may perform similar tasks. In a typical day as a nursing school instructor you may experience the following physical scenarios. If after reviewing these scenarios you have concerns or believe you will need reasonable accommodation to perform one or more of these tasks, please contact your school coordinator who will discuss your concerns with you. If warranted, your school coordinator will initiate the interactive process with you and interact with designated St. Luke's personnel to determine whether reasonable accommodation may be made.

  • Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry and push objects between 50-75 lbs. Transports patients weighing up to 500 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above should level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey
  • Maintenance of clinical competence as registered nurse.
