What We Look For In a Orton Gillingham Tutor

Guides students through phonogram drills, red word memorization, syllable division practice, encoding exercises, and connected text reading using the diagnostic-prescriptive approach. Emphasizes individualized lesson pacing based on student mastery and connects structured literacy to building reading confidence and academic success for dyslexic learners.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence and common challenges such as vowel team confusion, syllable division errors, and transferring decoding skills to fluent reading. Adapts instruction using multisensory techniques including sand trays, tapping, and color-coded syllable cards to support students with dyslexia, reading disabilities, or foundational literacy gaps from elementary through adult levels.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
