Odyssey House is seeking Mental Health Interns! We are looking for first and second year Masters level students.


Summary: Odyssey House's Mission is "Empowering people to heal and build better lives." We are dedicated to helping individuals and families reclaim their lives through effective substance use treatment, prevention, and mental health services. Our programs address education, job skills, healthcare, sober housing, behavioral management, and aftercare support to ensure lifelong success. Odysseyโ€™s services truly address each aspect of the individual, producing whole-person change.


First-year interns are unpaid. Successful first-year interns experienced at Odyssey House are given priority selection for paid second-year paid internship positions. Second-year interns are paid $13.00/hourly.


Position Description:

  • Appropriately diagnose mental health and substance-related conditions using the DSM V
  • Appropriately assess client needs using the American Society of Addiction Medicine Patient Placement Criteria.
  • Utilize the Therapeutic Community model as the main component of treatment.
  • Conduct individual, family, and group therapy as assigned.
  • Develop an effective level of rapport with clients on caseload while maintaining healthy boundaries.
  • Complete thorough and effective assessments in required time frames, such as funding extension requests.
  • Coordinate client psychiatric evaluations and other wrap-around services to provide effective care.
  • Complete treatment planning within a required time frame.
  • Utilize motivational techniques to retain and support client progress.
  • Actively utilize the treatment team for clinical support on caseload.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities with clients.
  • Connect clients to community resources.
  • Complete service documentation within the appropriate client management system within 24 hours.
  • Accurately document services using ASAM Dimensional Analysis format, including all required elements.
  • Proactively involve and communicate with collateral supports, including family, significant others, probation officers, judges, caseworkers, etc.
  • Document all incidents immediately and report as required.
  • Complete accurate and thorough client reports in required time frames, such as court reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


Licensure / Education / Prior Experience Required:

  • Working toward Masters degree in social work, mental health counseling, or marriage and family therapy
  • Be in the first or second year of an accredited masters level mental health program
  • You must pass a criminal background check if working with children or vulnerable adult populations.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification (will receive at Odyssey House if accepted)
  • Must comply with annual TB tests and annual Flu and Covid immunizations.
  • Must meet employment eligibility.

Pre-Employment Screening Requirements:


All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of required pre-employment screenings, as applicable to the position. These screenings may include background checks, fingerprinting, review of applicable state and national sex offender registries for positions located at Adult Residential Facilities, and other verifications required by regulation or program standards.

Positions that require driving on behalf of the Agency are contingent upon possession of a valid Utah driverโ€™s license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review to determine driving eligibility.

Each intern and employee is expected to clearly understand roles and responsibilities regarding the following: Specific job position, time management, personnel file requirements, client record system, incident reporting, mandatory training requirements, maintaining proper client boundaries, and individual rights of clients and staff.


Physical Demands of the Job: Ability to lift up to 15 lbs., drive (or adequate alternate transportation), sit for prolonged periods, and perform light to moderate physical activity at times.
