The Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, Division of Building Code Enforcement, isseeking a qualified individual to serve as a Building Code Plans Reviewer I. This position plays a vital rolein the building construction process, ensuring compliance with essential codes and standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Learns to review construction drawings and related documents of new or remodeled construction for compliancewith building codes and reference standards.
  • Learns to review field inspection reports.
  • Consults with design professionals, contractors, owners, and other officials concerning building plans.

  • Possess sufficient technical knowledge of construction practices and techniques
  • Proven abilities to manage multiple projects

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Two years of experience in drafting or preparing building construction documents, or in the supervision of building construction.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: An associate degree in architecture, engineering, architectural technology, drafting and designing technology, fire science technology, engineering technology, building construction technology, or related field will substitute for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must obtain a level I (one) building inspector certification issued by the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction as defined in KRS 198B.090 and 815 KAR 7.070, within two years of employment in this job classification. Must pass one required certification exam within this certification program, within one year. Must complete twelve (12), department approved, Kentucky Inspector Certified Program Continuing Education unit credits per year. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Work will typically be performed in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
