Job Summary
The Coating Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily coating operations, including surface preparation, coating application, curing (oven processes), and finishing. This role ensures production targets are met while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and efficiency. The supervisor leads a team of operators in a demanding, heat-intensive environment and drives continuous improvement across the coating process.
Job Responsibilities
Production & Operations
• Plan, schedule, and execute coating runs to meet daily and weekly production targets
• Coordinate prep, coating, curing (oven), and finishing activities to ensure smooth workflow
• Monitor throughput (PPH), labor utilization, and downtime; take corrective action as needed
• Ensure proper staging of materials before and after coating runs
• Optimize line efficiency and reduce bottlenecks across the process
Team Leadership
• Supervise, train, and develop a team of coating operators and production workers
• Manage staffing, job rotations (especially for heat exposure), and workload balancing
• Enforce accountability for performance, attendance, and safety
• Conduct shift meetings and communicate production goals and expectations
• Communicate effectively with a diverse workforce in both English and Spanish
Quality Control
• Ensure all coated products meet internal specs and customer requirements
• Monitor coating thickness, adhesion, and finish quality
• Identify defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
• Maintain documentation for quality checks and inspections
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce all safety procedures, especially related to high-heat and oven operations
• Ensure proper use of PPE (heat-resistant gear, respirators, etc.)
• Lead safety training, audits, and incident investigations
• Monitor working conditions and implement improvements to reduce fatigue and risk
Equipment & Process Management
• Oversee operation of coating equipment, ovens, and material handling systems
• Coordinate preventative maintenance and report equipment issues
• Ensure proper setup, operation, and shutdown procedures are followed
• Support troubleshooting of process or equipment failures
Job Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade background preferred
• 3-5+ years of manufacturing experience; coating or finishing experience strongly preferred
• 1-3+ years of supervisory or team lead experience
• Experience with oven curing, powder coating, or industrial finishing processes is a plus
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
Candidate will be trained on specific coding processes
Physical & Work Environment
• Ability to work in high-temperature environments (near ovens and heated materials)
• Standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
• Fast-paced, physically demanding production environment
• Exposure to industrial equipment, noise, and coating materials
