Job description

RK&K is currently hiring an experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead various sub tasks for our Water Resources team in Virginia Beach, VA. As a Senior Project Engineer on our Water Resources team, you will support company wide efforts in stormwater management, MS4 support, coastal resilience, and drainage design for municipal and transportation related projects. You will be helping our water resources team with the planning, design, and implementation of effective drainage systems to ensure efficient conveyance and management of stormwater. Your expertise in local VA infrastructure, working in the coastal plain, and water resource engineering will be essential to your role.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and deliver industry leading stormwater management strategies for municipal and transportation projects, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines
  • Design and review hydraulic and stormwater management treatment systems, including the analysis of existing and new drainage systems, and creating appropriate plans
  • Attend and present project status updates at client meetings; Provide excellent client services with a focus on quality and timeliness
  • Meet and work directly with other design team members including project manager, project engineers, design technicians, drafters, surveyors, contractors, inspectors, public agency officials, and clients
  • Employ hydraulic software tools such as PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, Stormwise, Pondpack, and Ensoftec
  • Prepare studies, construction documents, technical reports, documentation, and presentations related to drainage design and stormwater management, contributing to the project deliverables and progress reporting
  • Perform field investigations to collect data, take field measurements, photographs, sketches, and verifying surveys as needed
  • Work with a team to ensure stormwater design is compliant with the overall project schedule and allocated budget
  • Mentor and lead up-and-coming engineers, technicians, and planners

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of Seven (7) years of experience as an Engineer supporting municipal projects
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in Virginia or the ability to apply for reciprocity
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Advanced knowledge of drainage design, H&H modeling, and stormwater management
  • Proficient with industry software such as: MicroStation, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, AutoCAD, Civil3d, and GIS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working on stormwater projects in the coastal plain
  • Experience leading sub task orders in water resources infrastructure design/engineering
  • Experience with stormwater pumps stations
  • Experience supporting MS4 programs
  • Experience with coastal dynamics and modeling
  • Experience with stormwater master plans/watershed studies
