Job description

Location: Southfield, MI | Full-Time | In-Person Salary: $225,000–$275,000/year

About the Opportunity

A highly respected and established Michigan personal injury law firm is seeking an experienced Managing Attorney to join its leadership team. This is a newly created position designed for a proven legal leader who enjoys mentoring attorneys, developing talent, and helping build efficient, high-performing legal teams.

The Managing Attorney will provide leadership and strategic oversight to approximately 15 attorneys across the firm's litigation, pre-litigation, and medical malpractice practices. This role is focused primarily on attorney leadership, case strategy, quality control, and professional development rather than maintaining a large personal caseload.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced attorney who wants to step into a significant leadership role while also having the opportunity to develop and build their own book of business over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 15 attorneys.
  • Provide guidance on case strategy, litigation, complex legal issues, and client matters.
  • Conduct regular case and file reviews to ensure matters are progressing effectively.
  • Monitor deadlines, case milestones, quality standards, and overall attorney performance.
  • Coach attorneys on organization, case management, negotiation, litigation strategy, and professional development.
  • Assist with attorney onboarding, training, and continued development.
  • Partner with firm leadership to improve workflows, processes, and overall legal operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accountability, and client outcomes.
  • Utilize Neos case management software and leverage technology to improve legal operations.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of plaintiff personal injury experience.
  • Experience handling a wide variety of personal injury matters, including but not limited to motor vehicle accidents, catastrophic injury claims, premises liability, product liability, wrongful death, and other complex negligence matters.
  • Active Michigan Bar license in good standing.
  • Previous experience managing and mentoring attorneys is required.
  • Strong personal injury litigation and case strategy experience.
  • Proven leadership and people-management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and decision-making abilities.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using case management technology, including Neos.
  • Strategic, collaborative, and solutions-oriented leadership style.

Why This Opportunity?

  • $225,000–$275,000 base salary
  • Opportunity to build your own book of business
  • Lead and develop a team of 15 attorneys
  • Newly created leadership position with opportunity to make a meaningful impact
  • Strong support from firm leadership
  • Established firm with a steady pipeline of quality cases
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture

If you're an experienced attorney and proven people leader ready to take the next step in your career, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact while helping shape the future of a respected personal injury practice.
