Are you an engineering student who enjoys working with people to solve technical problems? The Powerex Sales Engineering Co-op program provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of sales, engineering, business, and customer engagement. Unlike traditional engineering co-ops, this role provides exposure to the business side of engineering. Students work alongside experienced sales professionals to learn how complex engineered systems are specified, built, sold and supported. You'll visit customer sites and interact with industry professionals, while developing communication and leadership skills that set you apart from traditional engineering graduates.

Position Summary

The Sales Engineering Co-op will support the sales team in expanding Powerex's presence in the medical piped equipment and laboratory markets. The co-op will assist with territory management, customer support, product education, and market development activities while developing a strong understanding of consultative, relationship-driven technical sales, customer needs and industrial systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the sales team with quotation, submittal, and follow-up activities
  • Learn about the Medical Gas and Laboratory Gas industries - products, applications, markets, sales cycles
  • Learn how to go to market with a distribution network
  • Participate in customer visits, sales calls, and training sessions alongside senior sales staff
  • Assist with product and application training materials and presentations
  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and account tracking
  • Maintain and update customer and opportunity data in CRM systems
  • Learn about industry regulations, particularly NFPA 99

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a BS/BA degree (Engineering, Business, Sales, Marketing, or related field preferred)
  • Interest in technical or consultative sales and engineering-driven products
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with engineers, contractors, and customers
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; CRM exposure is a plus
  • Technical curiosity - experience or coursework related to engineering systems is beneficial but not required
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

Travel Exposure

Co-op students will have opportunities to travel with experienced sales professionals to:

  • Visit hospitals, laboratories, and industrial facilities
  • Meet consulting engineers and contractors
  • Participate in customer training events
  • Observe how technical solutions are evaluated and specified

Travel expenses are fully covered.
