Purpose of Position
The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Musical Theater effective August 2026. This position is a full-time, one year visiting appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4.
The primary responsibilities will include teaching applied music theater voice, with the possibility of a secondary teaching area in classical applied voice. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the department curriculum as appropriate and consistent with experience and specialization. Additionally, the individual will support the production of cabaret programs in collaboration with the cabaret director.
We seek a candidate with a terminal degree in a relevant field (Theatre, Fine Arts, or Music), or a master's in a related field, and significant professional experience in music theatre performance. Preference will be given to those with additional experience in teaching undergraduates and classical music performance. Additional classroom teaching experience will also be considered.
Salary ranges from $65,000 to $75,000 commensurate with Education and Experience.
