Job description

Overview

Custom Components & Assemblies, Inc. is a growing precision job shop in Houston running 10 CNC machines (6 mills, 4 lathes).

We are hiring a Day Shift CNC Setup Machinist who can set up, run, and troubleshoot parts in a high-mix, fast-paced environment.

If you can walk up to a print, set the job up, dial it in, and keep it running — this is your shop.

Schedule

  • Monday – Friday (Day Shift)
  • Overtime available depending on workload

Equipment You’ll Work With

  • 6 CNC Mills (primarily Fanuc-style controls)
  • 4 CNC Lathes
  • Job shop environment (high-mix, low-to-mid volume work)

This is important — we are not a production-only shop. Frequent setups are expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes
  • Interpret blueprints and GD&T
  • Select tooling, set offsets, fixtures, and prove out jobs
  • Hold tight tolerances (±.001 or better where required)
  • Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges
  • Troubleshoot machining and tooling issues
  • Maintain efficiency across multiple setups

Requirements

  • 3+ years CNC machining experience
  • Ability to independently perform setups
  • Strong blueprint reading skills
  • Experience holding tight tolerances
  • Comfortable in a job shop (changing setups regularly)

High-Value Candidates (What We’re Really Looking For)

  • Fanuc experience
  • Can jump between mills and lathes
  • Light programming or G-code editing ability
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset (feeds/speeds/tool failure)

About the Shop

  • 10 CNC machines (6 mills / 4 lathes)
  • 1 shift (day), tight team environment
  • Steady workload + growth potential
  • Clean, organized operation
