Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The CNC Machinist/Programmer completes tasks and operates routine production equipment and machinery ensuring the daily maintenance and a safe work environment with an ultimate goal of zero accidents.
POSITION GUIDELINES:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Programs mills/lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to internal standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including, facing; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; and cleaning daily.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment as necessary including but not limited to: eye and hearing protection, safety shoes, lab coats, gloves, dust masks and respirators.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience/Background:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in 3 axis CNC machining or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.
  • Vocational training, apprenticeships, or the equivalent experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Must be a U.S. person or protected individual within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines U.S. persons and protected individuals as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), U.S. Temporary Resident, Political Asylee or Refugee.

Skills:
  • Proven experience as CNC Machinist/Programmer
  • Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
  • Ability to program and operate mill/lathe to create parts per engineering drawing
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • Computer savvy with strong understanding of computer programming
  • CAD/CAM, Inventor or MasterCAM experience required
  • Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize responsibilities
  • Able to read and interpret company documents, such as safety rules, operating/manufacturing instructions, policies and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter and work as a team player
  • Must have high levels of attention to detail and quality, be able to multitask and stay organized
  • Must demonstrate the ability to act professionally
  • Must be able to occasionally move about in production areas as needed

Education:

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manufacturing / Non-Sedentary Requirements:
Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, or climb. May have possible exposure to dust, and may require the ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds 33% - 66% of the time.
