Job Summary

The CNC 3-Axis and/or 5-Axis Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machining centers to produce precision parts in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role ensures safe operation, consistent part quality, and efficient production while supporting continuous improvement initiatives

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC machining centers

• Load and unload raw materials and finished parts

• Verify program setup, tooling, offsets, and fixtures prior to machining

• Monitor machine operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and appropriate tolerances

• Inspect parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges

• Identify and report machine issues, tool wear, or nonconforming parts

• Participate with engineering in NPI experimental activities as required

• Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping

• Accurately complete production, inspection, and quality documentation

• Follow work instructions, safety procedures, and production schedules

• Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and supervisors to improve processes

Educational Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Technical training, vocational certification, or apprenticeship in CNC machining preferred

Schedule

  • 5:00pm to 5:00am
  • 4x10 schedule with OT

Required Experience

• 3–5 years of experience operating CNC machines

• Hands-on experience with 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC machining centers

• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of CNC machining principles and tooling

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and GD&T

• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments

• Attention to detail and commitment to quality

• Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Strong time-management and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience machining tight-tolerance components, (aerospace & other)

• Familiarity with CNC controls

• Experience with multi-axis fixturing and complex setups

• Prior experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing shop floor environment

• Exposure to noise, cutting fluids, metal chips, and moving machinery

• Shift work, overtime, or weekend work may be required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

• Ability to lift, push, or pull materials and fixtures (up to 40–50 lbs)

• Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements

• Good vision and hand-eye coordination
