Summary
Salvagnini America is looking for an experienced CNC machinist to join our Tooling Department. Youโ€™ll be setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC equipment used to manufacture precision punch tooling. Our tooling is manufactured to close tolerances of ยฑ0.0004", so the ability to accurately measure and verify finished tooling is essential.
This is a precision, low-volume machining environment with a variety of tooling and machining challenges rather than high-volume production. Youโ€™ll work closely with other technicians and employees to prioritize workload and complete customer orders. Some equipment setup and programming will be required to manufacture different types of tooling, along with troubleshooting when needed. Youโ€™ll manage orders from beginning to end, through production and quality control to packaging for shipment.
The position also involves basic mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of production equipment, as well as keeping equipment clean and properly maintained.
Training: Approximately 10โ€“12 weeks, Mondayโ€“Friday, 8:00 AMโ€“4:00 PM.
Regular Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 6:00 AMโ€“2:00 PM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Set up and operate CNC equipment used to manufacture precision punch tooling.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and internal work orders.
  • Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators, to inspect tooling and verify dimensions to 0.0001". All necessary measuring equipment and hand tools are provided.
  • Create and modify CNC programs as needed to manufacture various types of tooling.
  • Troubleshoot machining processes, equipment, and existing CNC programs as needed.
  • Monitor tooling throughout the manufacturing process and perform quality checks to ensure finished tooling meets specifications.
  • Manage tooling orders through the production process, including quality control and preparation for shipment.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting on production equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Work with other technicians and employees to prioritize workload and meet customer delivery requirements.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience setting up, programming, and operating CNC equipment.
  • Strong understanding of general CNC machining principles and practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and work orders.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Ability to accurately measure and verify dimensions to 0.0001".
  • Good mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment and machining processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain exacting quality standards.
  • Good math and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to perform basic preventative maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting on CNC equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and managers.
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CNC grinding.
  • Experience with wire EDM.
  • Experience with sinker EDM.
  • Experience machining hardened tool steels.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software, including developing or modifying programs.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD software.
Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, walking, and use of hands to operate machinery and handle tooling. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.
