Job description

SUMMARY: A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinist operates and programs machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders that are controlled by a computer to produce precision metal parts. The CNC Machinist will operate machine tools to fabricate and manufacture machine parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This CNC Machinist is responsible for the machining required by work orders, including but not limited to set up, production, and inspection of all machining assigned.
  • Perform Set-up, adjust and operate a variety of CNC machines within the machine shop.
  • Operates fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes.
  • Selects the appropriate cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials to be used on machines.
  • Use Micrometers, Calipers, gauges and CMM to check tolerances/quality of parts produced to provide accurate inventory counts.
  • Examines and measures completed units and parts to identify any defects and to ensure units conform with predetermined specifications; adjusts machine controls to resolve production errors.
  • Maintain accurate records in EPICOR in relation to time to complete the job, completed quantity and scrap quantity.
  • Read and understand layouts, job travelers and blueprints for the parts being run (includes Geometric Tolerancing)
  • Perform necessary side operations during machine cycle time as required Follow set-up procedures and recommend improvements.
  • Inspects machinery for any needed repairs; performs minor repairs within expertise.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of work area.
  • Complies with applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES: Ability to operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining. Ability to read blueprints and plans. Excellent mechanical skills. Excellent time management skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational/technical school training and apprenticeship in Machining Technology or CNC Machining trade school preferred.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing and bending required. Must be able to lift 35 pounds at a time.
