CNC Machine Maintenance Repair Technician
Location: Fraser, MI
Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000 annually, based on experience
Position Type: Direct Hire

POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead CNC Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations while actively performing hands-on diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance on CNC machines and related production equipment. This role provides technical leadership to maintenance technicians, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures equipment reliability to minimize downtime and maintain safe, efficient operations.
 
This is a working lead role — combining team leadership with direct mechanical and electrical repair responsibilities.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Coordination
  • Provide day-to-day direction and technical guidance to Maintenance Technicians
  • Prioritize and assign maintenance tasks based on production needs and equipment criticality
  • Serve as primary escalation point for complex troubleshooting issues
  • Coordinate maintenance coverage to support production schedules, including overtime as needed
  • Support training and development of maintenance team members
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and external contractors to minimize operational disruption
Hands-On Maintenance & Technical Work
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair CNC machines, boring mills, and other production equipment
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs
  • Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on electronic and mechanical systems
  • Utilize diagnostic tools including multimeters, infrared scanners, and other test equipment
  • Interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, part manuals, and technical documents
  • Install, repair, and maintain machine tool controls and automation systems
  • Ensure compliance with warranty and maintenance standards
Administrative & Compliance
  • Track, document, and close work orders accurately
  • Communicate repair status, required parts, and estimated completion timelines
  • Order and manage replacement components as needed
  • Ensure adherence to Lockout/Tagout procedures, safety standards, and PPE requirements
  • Maintain organized workspaces and maintenance records
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of CNC machine maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex CNC equipment
  • Experience leading or mentoring maintenance technicians preferred
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation
  • Experience with diagnostic and testing equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to respond effectively in machine-down situations
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical degree or apprenticeship in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related field
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and machine controls
