What is a CNC grinding machine operator?

CNC Grinding Machine Operators are skilled technicians who set up, operate, and maintain computer numerically controlled (CNC) grinding machines. They use these machines to shape, finish, or sharpen metal or other materials to precise specifications. Their responsibilities include reading blueprints, selecting proper grinding wheels, monitoring machine operation, and inspecting finished parts for quality. CNC Grinding Machine Operators play a critical role in manufacturing industries to ensure products meet exact tolerances and standards.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a CNC grinding machine operator?

To thrive as a CNC Grinding Machine Operator, you need a solid understanding of machining principles, blueprint reading, and precision measurement, often supported by vocational training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with CNC programming languages, operation of grinding machines, and use of measuring tools like micrometers and calipers is essential. Job description

Shape precision parts on 2nd shift in Warsaw, IN

Picture your evening: you arrive at our temperature-controlled Warsaw, IN facility for your 2nd shift, review the work queue, and step up to an ANCA CNC grinder. You load the program, confirm tooling, and dial in the setup from the blueprint. As production runs, you verify every critical feature with calipers, micrometers, height and depth gauges, and the comparator—always to AQL and work instruction standards. If a dimension drifts, you troubleshoot, correct, and move forward. You sign off on your own setup and, when asked, you approve setups completed by teammates.

What you’ll take on
  • Set up and operate ANCA CNC grinding equipment to manufacture parts per blueprints and documented procedures.
  • Run production safely and consistently, following established operating guidelines.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision hand metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, height/depth gauges) and a comparator to meet AQL and work instruction criteria.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve dimensional variances; verify and approve setups for other operators as needed.
  • Accurately track completed and scrapped parts, complete production paperwork, and record data in the company system.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and quality standards; perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and experience that help you win here
  • Proficient with precision measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, height and depth gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and operation sheets to determine required machining steps.
  • Working knowledge of G-Code and M-Code; strong computer aptitude.
  • Collaborative approach with solid interpersonal communication.
  • Self-directed and comfortable working with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs and standing/walking 8+ hours per day.
  • Willing to work overtime (daily/weekly) as needed.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum).
Who thrives on our team
  • Self-starters who enjoy a fast-moving production environment.
  • Curious learners eager to deepen their understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Reliable contributors who know showing up matters.
  • Team players who bring an open, positive, and cooperative attitude and can plan work across groups.
  • Clear communicators—both written and verbal.
What you won’t run into
  • Stagnation—clear paths to grow, learn, and advance.
  • Monotony—our product mix changes, so your days don’t all look the same.
  • Anonymity—we’re close-knit and have each other’s backs.
What you’ll enjoy
  • Competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid vacation and 10 paid holidays each year.
  • Employer-funded Basic Life and AD&D, plus STD and LTD.
  • Tuition reimbursement to keep your skills sharp.
  • Great 401(k) with company match.
  • Generous employee referral bonuses.
  • Performance-based culture with strong internal promotion and career advancement.
  • Temperature-controlled facility and additional resources like travel assistance and EAP.
  • Active community involvement and giving back.
Preferred proficiencies and tools
  • GD&T
  • G-Code and M-Code
  • Precision Measurement & Hand Metrology
