Job description

Summary of Position

The CNC Programmer is responsible for planning, developing, and optimizing numerical control programs used to machine metal parts on automatic machine tools. This role supports efficient production processes, maintains program accuracy, and collaborates closely with machinists and operations teams to improve manufacturing performance.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Analyze job orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to calculate dimensions and determine machining operations.

  • Select appropriate cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates to optimize production efficiency.

  • Create, edit, and maintain CNC programs using CAM software such as Mastercam or GibbsCAM.

  • Test, troubleshoot, and revise CNC programs to eliminate errors and ensure quality output.

  • Develop and maintain process documentation, setup instructions, in-process drawings, and visual aids for machinists and operators.

  • Conduct machine trial runs or simulations to verify program functionality and ensure parts meet specifications.

  • Monitor and support machine operators to ensure programs are being executed correctly.

  • Collaborate with management, machinists, and operators to identify and implement process improvements.

  • Lead tooling tests and analyze machining performance to improve productivity and quality.

  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment following manufacturing best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC Machinist.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a CNC Programmer using CAM software such as Mastercam, GibbsCAM, G-Code, M-Code, or Mazatrol.

  • Experience programming various CNC machine tools including verticals, horizontals, and lathes.

  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading, geometry, GD&T, and machining tolerances.

  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with machine tools and manufacturing equipment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in CNC Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience working with Haas, Fanuc, Osai, and Mazak controls.

  • Leadership or supervisory experience in CNC machining environments.

  • Experience programming Swiss-type CNC machines.

  • Frequently lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.

  • Occasionally lift materials up to 75 pounds.

  • Frequently push or pull loads between 25-50 pounds.
