Job description

Job Title: CMT TechnicianJob Description

The CMT Technician performs field and laboratory testing on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate, ensuring that all testing and inspection activities align with project requirements and established safety and quality standards. This role involves interpreting project documents, conducting detailed site observations, accurately documenting and reporting test data, and communicating findings and potential issues to project teams in a timely and professional manner.

Responsibilities
  • Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate, using specialized testing equipment.
  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, plans, and technical documents to ensure testing and inspection activities comply with project requirements.
  • Conduct site observations and inspections, documenting construction activities, material placement, and testing procedures with a high level of accuracy and detail.
  • Collect, analyze, and report test data, providing clear, accurate, and timely documentation of all findings.
  • Maintain organized records of testing results, observations, and project documentation in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Communicate testing results, project updates, and potential issues clearly to project teams and supervisors.
  • Follow established safety procedures and quality standards while working in both field and laboratory environments.
  • Work off-shift and overtime as needed to support project timelines and testing requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience in construction materials testing, including concrete and soils.
  • Minimum of 2 years of construction inspection experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of materials testing experience.
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician I certification.
  • Experience using nuclear gauge equipment for materials testing.
  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and distinguish differences in sound.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time on construction sites.
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally to perform testing and inspections.
  • Ability to climb occasionally and work at various heights as required by the site conditions.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures.
  • Ability to work overnight hours and off-shift as project needs require.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with ACI standards and procedures for concrete testing.
  • Exposure to NICET-related practices or certifications in materials testing or construction inspection.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation and recordkeeping.

Work Environment

This role is based full-time in the field on large construction sites across the San Antonio area. The CMT Technician works outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and direct sun, and spends extended periods walking and standing on active job sites. The position involves regular interaction with engineers, project managers, and field personnel from owners, general contractors, and subcontractors, requiring comfort in communicating with diverse teams in a dynamic construction environment. Work hours may include overnight shifts and off-shift assignments, as well as overtime, depending on project needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
