THE POSITION: THE OPPORTUNITY: The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) is seeking skilled and motivated Mechanics I-III (DOQ) to join our dedicated Operations and Maintenance team. In this role, you'll play a hands-on part in ensuring the reliable operation of the Agency's sophisticated and complex mechanical systems-supporting the production, treatment, storage, transmission, and distribution of water, wastewater, recycled water, and composting operations. As a Mechanic with IEUA, you'll tackle a variety of work, from preventive and predictive maintenance to complex repairs, fabrication, and welding.
You'll work on pumps, compressors, gearboxes, pipelines, chemical feed systems, and other critical infrastructure that keeps our communities supplied and our environment protected. Your work will help prevent downtime, extend equipment life, and enhance system efficiency-making a tangible impact on both reliability and sustainability. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Mechanic I: One year of experience in semi-skilled maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred. Mechanic II: Three years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of wastewater/water, recycled water and composting facilities and equipment or similar industrial mechanical maintenance and repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Mechanic III: A Mechanic II may be considered for advancement to Mechanic III after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class; obtaining the specified licenses, certificates, and special requirements of the Mechanic II class as described in the General Unit Memorandum of Understanding. LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program. Mechanic I Within 6 months of appointment and during the course of employment obtain and maintain the following: CPR and First Aid Certification Confined Space Certification Approved and qualified use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Forklift Certification In some assignments, the incumbent must possess and maintain: California Class A or B driver's license Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operator Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators Weighmaster Certification Within twenty-four (24) months of hire or promotion obtain: California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade 1 Certification Mechanic II California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade 1 required at hire, promotion, or advancement.

Skilled in performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on pumps, compressors, gearboxes, pipelines, and other critical mechanical equipment supporting water, wastewater, recycled water, and composting operations.
