What is a cloud testing?

A Cloud Testing job involves evaluating cloud-based applications, services, and infrastructure to ensure performance, security, and scalability. Cloud testers use various testing methods, such as functional, performance, security, and compliance testing, to validate cloud solutions. They work with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and use automation tools to streamline testing processes. The role requires knowledge of cloud computing, test automation, and DevOps practices to ensure seamless software deployment and functionality in cloud environments.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in cloud testing?

Professionals in Cloud Testing often encounter challenges such as ensuring test environments accurately reflect production cloud settings, managing automated tests across multiple platforms, and addressing issues related to cloud scalability and security. Collaborating closely with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams is common to maintain smooth integration and continuous deployment pipelines. Additionally, adapting to rapidly evolving cloud technologies and keeping up-to-date with industry best practices is an ongoing part of the role. These challenges provide opportunities to develop specialized skills and contribute significantly to the reliability and performance of cloud-based applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the cloud testing position, and why are they important?

To excel in Cloud Testing, a solid grounding in software testing principles, cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), and scripting languages like Python or Shell is essential, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Jenkins), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud-testing frameworks as well as certifications like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and problem-solving skills help cloud testers navigate complex cloud environments and collaborate across teams. These abilities are vital to ensure robust, scalable, and secure cloud applications while meeting project requirements and deadlines.

Are cloud testing jobs still in demand?

Cloud testing jobs remain in demand as organizations increasingly adopt cloud environments and require professionals skilled in cloud platforms, automation tools, and testing frameworks. These roles often require knowledge of cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, along with scripting and automation skills. The demand is expected to grow with the ongoing shift toward cloud-based solutions across industries.

How to become a cloud testing?

To become a cloud tester, develop skills in cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and gain experience with testing tools and automation frameworks. Earning certifications such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Certified Cloud Testing Professional can enhance your credentials. Practical experience in software testing, scripting, and understanding cloud architecture are essential for this role.

Job description

Senior Software Quality Engineer(Contract)

6-month contract | Hybrid: San Mateo, CA

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality mobile applications used by millions of users worldwide? Join Sony Interactive Entertainment's Quality Engineering organization and help ensure the quality, stability, and performance of innovative iOS mobile applications.

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Software Quality Engineer (Contract) to support end-to-end testing efforts across our iOS application ecosystem. In this role, you will work closely with software engineers, SDETs, and product teams to validate new features, execute comprehensive test plans, expand automation coverage, and help deliver high-quality releases.

This position is focused on quality engineering and test execution. While it is not a full-time software development role, candidates should have strong automation experience and be comfortable working with automation frameworks, reviewing automated tests, and collaborating with automation engineers to improve test coverage and CI/CD validation.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Execute end-to-end testing activities for iOS mobile applications, including functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Review product requirements, UX flows, and technical designs to identify test scenarios and develop comprehensive test plans.
  • Perform manual and automated testing using iOS simulators, physical devices, and cloud testing platforms such as Sauce Labs or BrowserStack.
  • Collaborate with developers and SDETs to identify opportunities to increase automation coverage and improve overall test effectiveness.
  • Execute and validate automated test suites, investigate failures, and support troubleshooting of automation issues.
  • Analyze application logs, reproduce reported issues, validate bug fixes, and assist with root cause analysis.
  • Create clear and actionable defect reports, including reproduction steps, logs, screenshots, and supporting evidence.
  • Validate mobile application interactions with backend services through API and integration testing, including testing with mocked services when appropriate.
  • Support continuous integration and release validation by executing automated and manual test activities within CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, architecture, QA, and operations in an agile development environment.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with strong hands-on experience testing iOS mobile applications.
  • Experience creating test plans, identifying test scenarios, and executing comprehensive manual and automated testing.
  • Hands-on experience with mobile automation frameworks such as Appium and familiarity with Python-based automation.
  • Understanding of the iOS application release lifecycle, including TestFlight, build pipelines, versioning, and release validation.
  • Experience testing on iOS simulators, physical devices, and cloud testing platforms such as Sauce Labs or BrowserStack.
  • Familiarity with automation frameworks such as Pytest, WebdriverIO, or Playwright, with the ability to review automated tests, troubleshoot failures, and collaborate with automation engineers.
  • Basic programming or scripting experience (Python preferred; Java, JavaScript, or C# is a plus) sufficient to understand automation frameworks, troubleshoot failures, and contribute where appropriate.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across distributed teams.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt in a fast-paced development environment.
Nice to Have
  • Experience testing PlayStation or gaming-related applications.
  • Familiarity with PlayStation SDKs.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions.
  • Experience testing applications that interact with cloud services or REST APIs.
