What is a Cloud Task?

A Cloud Task job refers to a background task or asynchronous workload that runs in a cloud environment. It is commonly managed using task queues, allowing tasks to be executed separately from the main application workflow. Cloud tasks help improve performance, scalability, and reliability by enabling efficient job distribution across servers. Typically, they are used for processing tasks like sending emails, generating reports, or handling API requests. Many cloud providers offer managed task services, such as Google Cloud Tasks or AWS Step Functions, to simplify implementation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cloud Task position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Cloud Task role, you need strong cloud computing knowledge, proficiency in managing cloud infrastructure, and experience with platforms like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Familiarity with automation tools, scripting languages, and certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Administrator are often required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for the position. These qualifications ensure smooth deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of cloud-based systems essential for modern organizations.

What are the primary challenges faced by professionals working in Cloud Task roles?

Professionals in Cloud Task roles often encounter challenges such as maintaining system security, managing cloud resource costs, and keeping up with rapidly evolving cloud technologies. The dynamic nature of the cloud environment requires continuous learning to stay updated on best practices and platform updates. Team members frequently collaborate across IT, security, and development teams to ensure system reliability and compliance. Being proactive and adaptable are key to overcoming these challenges and excelling in the role.

Job description

As a Senior Platform Engineer at BSC Analytics, you'll be part of a high-performing squad of four to five engineers tackling complex platform challenges for large-scale, highly regulated enterprises. Our work spans cloud migrations, modernization programs, Kubernetes platforms, and DevOps transformations across both Azure and AWS - which means no two engagements look exactly alike. If you thrive on learning, moving fast, and solving real-world problems across a mix of environments - both modern and legacy - this role is for you. Every week brings new opportunities to sharpen your technical skills, collaborate with top engineers, and grow your reputation as a trusted expert. You'll work on platforms that power mission-critical systems - all within a flexible, remote-first culture that values deep expertise, autonomy, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to design, build, and support robust platform solutions
  • Architect, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters on AWS and/or Azure
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines that deliver high-quality code at speed
  • Build automated infrastructure with Terraform and other IaC tools
  • Lead cloud migration and modernization efforts, including re-platforming legacy workloads (Java, .NET, ETL, databases) to modern cloud-native services
  • Automate scaling, deployment, and management of containerized applications
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and fine-tune system performance to ensure reliability, cost-effectiveness, and resilience
  • Implement proactive monitoring solutions that detect and prevent outages
  • Translate complex client requirements into scalable, automated solutions
  • Contribute to team knowledge-sharing, peer reviews, runbooks, and process improvement efforts
  • Support and maintain secure, compliant, and resilient infrastructure for critical systems
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering experience
  • 5+ years of Azure experience
  • 3+ years with Terraform and other IaC tooling
  • 2+ years building and operating Kubernetes in production
  • Hands-on experience migrating or modernizing legacy workloads (Java, .NET, or similar) to cloud
  • Comfort with database and data platform work across SQL and NoSQL technologies
  • Experience designing and building scalable, distributed systems
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar)
  • Experience designing and building scalable, distributed systems
  • Experience in consulting or client-facing delivery roles
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong multi-tasker, self-starter, and proactive team player
  • Cloud certifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Highly regulated industry experience (e.g. finance, healthcare)
  • AWS and Azure Professional level certifications
  • ETL or data pipeline experience (DataStage, ADF, Glue, Airflow, or similar)
  • Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD, CKS)
  • Agile experience
  • Benefits of full-time remote work but with a close team environment. BSC was built from the beginning to be remote. That means we work extra hard to support a culture of engagement with regular opportunities for in-person interaction.
  • Flexible work schedule and time off
  • Home office support
  • 401k with up to 4% company match
  • Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance
