The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for the role of Automation Technical Specialist within our Core Diagnostics division based out of the United States and this is a field-based remote role.
Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions, from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
As the Automation Technical Specialist, you'll provide technical leadership for automation hardware implementations within large clinical laboratories. You'll partner with customers and field teams to deploy automation solutions, resolve complex technical challenges, and support successful customer outcomes.
What You'll Work On
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for automation hardware solution implementations within large core clinical laboratories.
  • Lead onsite implementation activities including equipment receipt, site readiness review, equipment placement, assembly, testing, and operational verification.
  • Coordinate implementation projects with customers, project managers, laboratory leadership, local field service teams, contractors, vendors, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Resolve complex technical inquiries and provide advanced troubleshooting support throughout the implementation lifecycle.
  • Apply established procedures and develop practical solutions to address technical challenges and customer requirements.
  • Deliver automation product training and technical guidance to field service personnel during and after implementation.
  • Support post-implementation escalations and provide subject matter expertise for complex automation system issues.
  • Support new automation hardware product launches and instrument additions at existing customer sites.
  • Develop and apply consulting strategies that strengthen customer partnerships and support long-term automation solution success.
  • Maintain compliance with quality system requirements and promote adherence to Abbott's Code of Business Conduct.
  • Travel up to 100% throughout the United States supporting customer implementation projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Automation Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Technical Systems, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience supporting, servicing, troubleshooting, implementing, or maintaining automation systems, laboratory instrumentation, diagnostic equipment, or other complex technical systems.
  • Experience resolving technical issues in customer-facing environments.
  • Ability to independently execute complex technical projects and specialized assignments.
  • Ability to travel up to 100% and maintain easy access to a major airport.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Experience within clinical laboratory, diagnostics, healthcare, or laboratory automation environments.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and biologics.
  • Experience providing technical training, coaching, or mentorship to field service personnel.
  • Experience leading implementation projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with Abbott Diagnostics automation and instrument platforms.
  • Strong project coordination, consulting, and customer relationship management experience.
  • Familiarity with laboratory workflow and operations.
