How much do clinical research informatics jobs pay per year?
What is clinical research informatics?
A Clinical Research Informatics job involves managing and analyzing healthcare data to support clinical research and improve patient outcomes. Professionals in this field develop and maintain databases, ensure data integrity, and utilize informatics tools to streamline clinical trials. They collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and IT specialists to optimize data collection, integration, and analysis. This role requires knowledge of biomedical research, data science, and regulatory compliance.
What does a clinical research informatics specialist do?
Professionals in Clinical Research Informatics are usually responsible for designing and managing databases for clinical studies, ensuring data integrity, and analyzing research data to support scientific findings. They often coordinate with clinical researchers, IT specialists, and regulatory teams to develop data collection protocols and maintain compliance with industry standards. Regular tasks may include troubleshooting data issues, preparing reports, and training staff on informatics systems. This role often involves both independent work and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, offering a dynamic and impactful work environment.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in clinical research informatics?
Excelling in Clinical Research Informatics requires a solid background in clinical research methodologies, health informatics, data management, and often a relevant degree such as in biomedical informatics or computer science. Job description
Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, business people, tech experts, researchers, and systems analysts to advance our mission. As a not-for-profit, we support patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care. We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.
Job Summary
Overview StatementThe Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care, Department of Medicine at Mass General Brigham/Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS), invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in biomedical informatics and artificial intelligence (AI) in health care. The Division is nationally recognized for providing compassionate, high-quality care, pioneering innovative medical education, and conducting cutting-edge clinical and health services research.
We are seeking a highly motivated, diligent, and independent Research Fellow to join a dynamic research team supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This position focuses on advancing biomedical informatics research through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) methods to longitudinal electronic health record (EHR) data for disease phenotyping, risk factor identification, patient stratification, and predictive modeling across a range of disease domains, including Alzheimer's disease and temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The successful candidate will design, develop, and evaluate innovative methods for data mining and analytics by leveraging biomedical terminologies and standards, comprehensive clinical knowledge bases, advanced natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs), and machine learning/deep learning techniques. The ultimate goals are to accelerate knowledge discovery, improve clinical decision-making, enhance patient safety, and elevate the quality of care.
The fellowship is based at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Mass General Brigham, offering a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment at the forefront of health information technology research. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research, contribute to ongoing projects, and propose novel research initiatives with the potential to secure external funding. During the appointment period, Fellows will be strongly encouraged to publish their research findings in high-impact journals and present their work at national and international conferences.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are both independently driven and collaborative, thriving in a vibrant research environment alongside a large team of experienced faculty and staff. Fellows must be comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback, incorporating insights to improve their work, and transparently sharing their ideas and decision-making processes. Recognizing and valuing the contributions of colleagues is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the specific topic area in which the fellow works, but will generally include:
Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and data scientists to achieve project goals.
Participating in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of proposed system and methods.
Leading or contributing to the design and development of novel AI/informatics methods and applications.
Conducting data analysis and system evaluation.
Leading or contributing to manuscript preparation, writing, and submission to peer-reviewed journals.
Presenting research findings at national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops.
