Clinical Nurse Externs are nursing students who work in a healthcare setting, typically under the supervision of registered nurses, to gain hands-on clinical experience. These positions are often part-time or temporary and allow students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world situations. Externs assist with patient care tasks, observe procedures, and develop practical skills that prepare them for a nursing career. The role helps bridge the gap between academic studies and professional practice, providing valuable exposure to the hospital environment.

What responsibilities can a clinical nurse extern expect during a typical shift?

You may also help with documentation, observe procedures, and participate in team meetings. This hands-on experience allows you to build your clinical skills, gain exposure to different specialties, and better understand the workflow of a healthcare team. Externs often serve as a bridge between classroom learning and real-world nursing, offering valuable insights for future nursing roles.
