Description

The University of Rochester’s Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine seeks a clinical pathologist. This full-time faculty will oversee the clinical, operational, and academic activities of a laboratory within the division of Laboratory Medicine in a world-class academic medical center. They will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services, advancing research initiatives, and fostering excellence in education and training.

The successful candidate will collaborate with departmental and institutional leadership to develop and implement strategies that enhance the laboratory’s clinical services, research portfolio, and educational programs. Candidates should be forward-thinking and able to guide a laboratory with a large clinical portfolio while maintaining a commitment to innovation, quality improvement, and patient safety.

Responsibilities include: clinical leadership; operational management; research and education.

Provide strategic oversight and operational leadership for laboratory services, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic testing, aligning laboratory services with the needs of patients, clinicians, and the health system. Additionally, they will ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, oversee the implementation of advanced laboratory technologies, and foster a culture of innovation and quality improvement.

Manage the division’s budget to ensure financial sustainability and operational efficiency. Support staffing, recruitment, and professional development of laboratory personnel, including faculty, staff, and trainees. Monitor laboratory performance metrics to enhance productivity and service delivery.

Promote and support research initiatives within the laboratory, including basic, translational, and clinical research. Facilitate access to resources and infrastructure to support faculty and trainee research efforts, encourage the development of innovative diagnostic technologies, and collaborate with other departments and external partners to advance interdisciplinary research initiatives.

Oversee the laboratory’s educational activities, including the training of medical technologists, medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners. Support the development of innovative educational programs in laboratory medicine, mentor faculty and trainees, and foster a culture of academic excellence and professional growth.

The referenced pay range ($250,000-300,000) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.

Qualifications

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will hold an MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Clinical Pathology or a subspecialty of Laboratory Medicine (e.g., Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, Hematopathology, Molecular Pathology). They must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of New York.
