Job description

Reporting to the Director of Laboratory Services, responsibility for the daily operation of the clinical laboratory. Assists Director with all compliance, quality assurance and LIS issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides overall technical and supervisory direction to ensure that laboratory services comply with standatds established by Laboratory Services, CAP AABB, FDA, OSHA, and JCAHO.
  • Ensures that established policies, procedures an documentation are performed releting to sample collection, specimen testing, proficiency testing, quality control and assurance, competency testing, lab safety and infection control, inventory control.
  • Effectively directs and controls all laboratory activities to ensure quality laboratory services while ensuring the effective use of the hospital supplies and resources.
  • Adheres to Laboratory Services and hospital policies and procedures for safety, standard precautions, checmial hygiene, and exposure control and quality assurance.
  • Ensures that all equipment and instrumentation is maintained in proper condition and that preventive maintenance is performed and docmented.
  • Ensures that established policies, procedures and documentation are performed related to laboratory billing practices.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage information systems projects in assigned functional area, in order to provide automated solutions.
  • Interviews, selects hires and trains new employees.
  • Ensures timely, revelant, effective communication with staff and provides staff with forum to discuss ideas, concerns and potential decisions.
  • Coordinates efforts of team to maintain and/or implement changes in work processes to ensure high quality outcomes and meet established success indicators.
  • Establishes appropriate performance expectation and job standards and competencies, maintains system for evaluating effectiveness and performance of staff.
  • Additional responsibilies as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

Bachelor Degree - Science

B. Qualifications/Experience

10 years of experience in Clinical Laboratory and with at least 5 years in a manager position

CA Clinical laboratory Sciences license

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

Familiar with computerized equipment, organization and team skills
