Job description

Title: Clinical Laboratory Assistant

Department: Laboratory

Status: ROC

Hours: Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.


Job summary:

Under the overall direction of the Laboratory Director and the Laboratory Medical Director, the Clinical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the performance of phlebotomy procedures, processing of all lab specimens, routine clerical duties, and cleaning of laboratory equipment as necessary.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. Must be able to read and write English.
  3. Math skills required.
  4. Certification in Phlebotomy preferred.
  5. Past laboratory experience preferred.
  6. Familiarity with medical/laboratory terminology preferred.
  7. Ability to type 30 WPM accurately.
  8. Ability to operate or learn to operate basic office equipment.
  9. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians, and all other support hospital & external personnel.
  10. Ability to organize and use time efficiently and effectively.
