Position Title: Senior Clinical Data Steward (Clinical Informatics)
Location: Birmingham, AL (Hybrid)
Position Status: Contract to Hire
Position Description:
Our client is seeking a Senior Clinical Data Steward to play a critical role in advancing enterprise-wide clinical data quality, governance, and standardization. This position sits within the Health Information Technology (HIT) organization and serves as a strategic partner to clinical, operational, analytics, and technology teams.
What You'll Do:
As the Clinical Data Steward, you will serve as the organization's trusted advisor for clinical data governance, ensuring that critical healthcare data is accurate, standardized, compliant, and actionable.
Clinical Data Governance & Stewardship
  • Lead enterprise clinical data governance initiatives and serve as the subject matter expert for clinical data quality and stewardship.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain clinical data standards, policies, governance frameworks, and best practices.
  • Establish and manage processes that ensure data integrity, consistency, usability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in enterprise data governance councils and cross-functional governance committees.

Data Quality & Analytics
  • Analyze clinical datasets to identify data quality issues, anomalies, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop quality metrics, KPIs, scorecards, and monitoring processes to measure data governance effectiveness.
  • Partner with analytics and reporting teams to improve the reliability and trustworthiness of enterprise healthcare data.
  • Support organizational initiatives involving population health, quality reporting, operational analytics, and value-based care.

Clinical Terminology & Standards Management
  • Maintain and promote the accurate use of healthcare data standards and terminology, including:
  • SNOMED CT
  • ICD-10
  • CPT
  • HCPCS
  • LOINC
  • RxNorm
  • HL7/FHIR
  • Ensure clinical terminology alignment across systems, reporting platforms, and workflows.

Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Act as the bridge between clinical operations, provider teams, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Collaborate with Application Development, Clinical Informatics, Provider Services, Revenue Cycle, and Analytics teams to resolve data challenges and improve outcomes.
  • Translate complex business and clinical requirements into sustainable data governance solutions.
  • Foster strong partnerships across the organization to drive adoption of data governance standards.

Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, healthcare data privacy regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Support audit readiness and data governance oversight initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Clinical Informatics, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience working with clinical data, healthcare data management, data governance, or clinical informatics within a healthcare organization.
  • Proven experience performing data quality analysis, data validation, and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
