Department Summary
Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Genetics is seeking qualified individuals to teach graduate level courses in Clinical Research Management in Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences as Adjunct Faculty. The Clinical Research Management curriculum focuses on providing students a broad-based view of the biomedical sciences, as well as an in depth knowledge of regulatory requirements (CFR, GCP), ethical issues, and both the medical writing and administrative skills necessary to conduct clinical research. The selected individual will be required to teach the students enrolled in the online MS in Clinical Research Management for Clinical Data Management course. This new online course on Clinical data management will provide critical concepts and practical methods to support planning, collection, storage, and dissemination of data in clinical research.
Position Overview
The role of the doctoral-level scientist will be to help lead and execute complex research projects using in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro approaches to investigate mechanisms of neurological injury, neuroinflammation, degeneration, and recovery. The primary purpose of this position is to expand the laboratory's research capacity by providing dedicated support for experimental design, data generation, analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant development. In addition, the position will contribute to trainee mentorship and collaborations across related projects that share common neuroimmune mechanisms and technical approaches. The role exists to help sustain productivity, advance translational research goals, and support the continued growth of a highly collaborative research program.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree. If not yet conferred, a letter from the school's official Graduate Office and/or Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements have been met and stating the degree conferral date can be accepted. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in neuroscience or immunology.
• Prior research experience in neurobiology, neuroimmunology, CNS injury, or related areas is a bonus but not required, along with demonstrated ability to perform independent experimental work, analyze data, and contribute to scientific writing.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

• No licensure is required; applicable institutional research training/certifications must be completed upon hire.

Job Duties

• Lead and conduct experimental studies on traumatic brain injury (TBI), including in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models, focusing on mechanisms of neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and recovery.
• Design, optimize, and execute laboratory protocols involving cell culture, organoid, histological, molecular, biochemical, and immunological techniques relevant to the lab's research program.
• Collect, manage, analyze, and interpret experimental data, including preparation of figures, summaries, and reports for manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
• Contribute to collaborative projects in multiple sclerosis (MS) and stroke that align with the lab's broader focus on immune-mediated neurological injury and repair.
• Prepare research manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and sections of grant proposals to support the dissemination of findings and future extramural funding.
• Maintain accurate research records and ensure compliance with institutional, laboratory, and regulatory requirements related to animal studies, biosafety, and research conduct.
• Participate in laboratory meetings, project planning, and interdisciplinary and clinical collaborations to support productivity, continuity, and advancement of the laboratory's translational research mission.
