The Engineering Technician - Mechanical shall provide mechanical engineering services in supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB).


Responsibilities
  • Conduct field work, site investigations, and design calculations.
  • Prepare layouts/models, prepare detailed specifications, and prepare parts lists and estimates.
  • Shall design an idea or rough sketch of a desired concept into practical items of equipment and/or systems that can be economically manufactured using USACE and ASME Y14 Standards.
  • Provide information on the required parts, which includes material composition, dimensions, electrical and safety characteristics, possible procurement sources, and cost information.
  • Produce workable designs from rough sketches or verbal descriptions that include, but are not limited to, the design of mechanical components related to high-speed rotating machinery and the design of lightweight structures involving sophisticated manufacturing and assembly procedures, and detailed technical drawings on HVAC systems.
  • Design of hardware for high-pressure and high-temperature fluid applications, as well as low-pressure fluid applications, and design of control and measurement instrumentation for process monitoring and control.
  • Design, fabrication, modification, or installation of research equipment or facilities.
  • Ensure that all tasks are designed for ease of maintenance, assembly, and reliability.
  • Assure that designs and related engineering information shall be developed using the appropriate CAD/CAE software or Microsoft Office Platform.
  • Complete annual company and customer-required training, as required.
  • Collaboration with the engineering team to produce the final design.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Drafting, or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Time in trade school or a related post-associate degree, college-level, technical curriculum shall be considered equal experience time.
  • 4+ years of mechanical engineering technician and drafting experience.
    • Experience with mechanical layouts, building modeling, rendering, and space allocation, including office layouts.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Background check required and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust/NACI to start.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient with CAD/CAE or Microsoft Office Platform software.
  • Must have Solid Works and AutoCAD experience.
  • Advanced working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to comply with applicable codes and standards of the contract.
  • Ability to pass customer security requirements required.
  • Ability to attend all customer in-person meetings and conferences as required.
  • Ability to self-start and work independently or as a team.
  • Ability to interact verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, government personnel, and management on a professional level.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Travel up to 10% as required.
